I teach studio and lecture courses at Virginia Tech and previously at Arizona State University. I enjoy bringing my research into the classroom, introducing students to recent technological breakthroughs in haptics, virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality.

Transdisciplinary Fusion Studio I

This studio course focuses on collaborative problem-setting. Students evaluate technology innovation based on four criteria: feasibility (can it be made?), viability (is it financially sensible?), desirability (do people want it?), and sustainability (can it work long-term?). An introduction to design thinking, systems thinking, and the ethical dimensions of collaborative technology innovation for societal impact.

An introduction to transdisciplinary, collaborative problem-solving with a systems thinking approach to address real-world problems in technology innovation, provided by clients from business, government, and nonprofit organizations. The integrative theme is "collaborative sociotechnical innovation" using Industry 4.0 enabling technologies.

Practice and prototyping study of transdisciplinary, collaborative design processes to address real-world problems in sociotechnical innovation. Student teams engage in defining and analyzing problems using Systems Thinking and the Collaborative Sociotechnical Innovation Model (CSIM) Four Set framework, working with clients from industry, business, government, and nonprofit organizations.
